Whoa! xxxHOLiC Rei Returned?

Hey gang! One of the more disappointing manga titles I ever read was xxxHOLiC, which suffered massively by its link to Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE. However, when CLAMP decided to spinup a sequel series called xxxHOLiC Rei, I did start reading it. I did some chapter reviews of the first twelve chapters and the first volume of the manga.

Then on June 27, 2014, I wrote a piece called “CLAMP: The Hiatus Masters!” By July 5, CLAMP had put xxxHOLiC Rei on hiatus. And frankly, I never bothered to read another chapter. After all, what was the point if CLAMP were just going to put yet another of their creations on hiatus for an indefinite period of time.

Unbeknownst to me, CLAMP did resume the series in April 2015. However, from what I can gather, the series only received irregular published chapters through March 2017. Looks like chapter 56 is where the manga was at that time. After that it was on hiatus and most folks gave it up for dead.

Meanwhile, I happened to see a not from CLAMP News on Twitter/X, stating that chapter 59 of xxxHOLiC Rei is coming out on May 29. This stunned me, so I looked. Shockingly, it seems CLAMP pull the series out of hiatus on April 21, 2025.

I’m buying the volumes I didn’t already own. Maybe I’ll try to catch up, but then again, knowing CLAMP, it will go back on hiatus soon.
